Step 1: Reviewing Approved Application
1. Submitted application and supporting documentation
2. Met all admission requirements
3. Submitted college-level transcripts or proof of a high school degree
4. Submitted a resume listing your current employment.
5. Submitted three professional recommendation letters
a. One colleague (two colleagues if self-directed),
b. Supervising educator (unless self-directed),
c. School administrator.
6. Provided evidence of the ability to practice in a Montessori classroom with children in the age range, accordingly with the candidate chosen level.
Candidate will receive an email confirming successfully completion of all items in Step 1; and MGTEI Adult Learner Handbook, as well as instructions to complete required documents in Step 2.
Step 2: Finalizing the process & enrolling in a class
* This Step must be completed within six weeks of the start of your 1st course.
Submit items 2-5 below directly to Admissions at firstname.lastname@example.org
1. A photocopy of a current government-issued photo ID;
2. Signed acknowledgment of MGTEI Adult Learner Handbook;
3. A recent (within six months) jpeg headshot photo;
5. Signed MGTEI Training Contract (link to Forms)
Candidate will receive an email confirming successfully completion of Step 2 and attachments with instructions to complete required documents in Step 3.
Step 3: Final approval & acceptance
Scan and email the following items directly to the MGTEI Admissions office at: email@example.com
[ ] A 300-word vision statement that describes your current employment and position and why you want to become a Montessori certified teacher.
[ ] Photos/video that clearly show the entire layout of the learning. The images must show the environment where you will practice assignments and o the same degree as the enrolled children would experience it in a school year
o For example, materials as displayed on the shelves, furniture placement with chairs and tables placed around the room leaving enough area for some floor space, etc.
o Please include pictures of the materials as displayed on the shelves.
[ ] Completed and signed Practicum Site and Supervising Teacher Agreement (link to Forms).
[ ] A copy of bachelor-level transcripts for Elementary or college level transcripts for Early Childhood.
[ ] If applicable, a copy of any previous Montessori training including transcripts documenting face-to-face hours.
[ ] The $250 registration fee is due when officially accepted ($166 of this fee goes towards MACTE 2021 student registration fee).
Step 4: Confirmation of acceptance
After submitting the completed admissions requirements, candidate receives an email with instructions that include username and password for logging into the MOODLE the MGTEI course management and registration systems.
**The final determination of required curriculum courses will be based on transcript review from other MACTE accredited programs. Adult learners who have obtained a Montessori credential for ages 3-6 from a MACTE or IMC accredited program may receive transfer credit toward two MGTEI classes in the Elementary program. Proof of certification is required.
¬ If a candidate wishes to receive a MGTEI certificate, the online application must be completed as well as providing all supporting documentation.
¬ Once officially accepted into the MGTEI, the course must be completed within three years of the start date of acceptance. A course completion certificate for professional development is awarded at the conclusion of each course.
¬ MGTEI requires payment for each individual course at the time of enrollment to that course. There is no requirement to prepay the entire cost of the program.
¬ In 2021, MGTEI is seeking dual accreditation with International Montessori Council (IMC) https://www.montessori.org/the-international-montessori-council-imc/ and the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE) http://www.macte.org/.
¬ MGTEI is an applicant in good standing for accreditation with MACTE/IMC for the levels: the Infant/Toddler (0-3), Early Childhood (3-6), Elementary I (6-9), Elementary II (9-12; with an EL I certificate), and Elementary I & II (6-12); and Secondary I (12-15) and Secondary II (15-18).
¬ When accredited, a MGTEI diploma with a MACTE seal will be awarded at the completion of all course requirements.
